Review of The Poseidon Adventure (1972) by Joby D — 14 Dec 2012
The Poseidon Adventure is a highly imaginative and lustily-produced meller that socks over the dramatic struggle of 10 passengers to save themselves after an ocean liner capsizes when struck by a mammoth tidal wave created by a submarine earthquake. Despite its smoothly-balanced nasty streak, The Poseidon Adventure is pure big-movie escapism of the most engaging variety. This is a classic of disaster movie genre with memorable cast. If we're making picks for the most entertaining disaster flicks ever made -- my enthusiastic vote goes to The Poseidon Adventure. What the glittering, star-driving survivalism of Poseidon Adventure actually presents is a nightmarishly schematic fantasia of guiltless discomfort. The thing about Poseidon Adventure is that you'll have fun watching it in spite of some of the silly stuff going on. Everybody on board plays their roles to the hilt and do a good job. As long as you know it's all just for fun, you should get a big kick out of it if you've never seen it.
RATING: "High-Quality Stuff" - [Positive Reaction] This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theatre to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent. (Films that are rated 3.5 or 4 stars).
