Review of The Poseidon Adventure (1972) by David C — 28 Jun 2013
This film, THE THING and SUPERMAN II were probably my three favourite films to stay up late and watch on a Friday night back throughout the late 80s. In fact, I think I might have even had a picture book that went along with this series, showing a sweaty, singletted Ernest Borgnine wrestling a tight skivvied Gene Hackman.
These 70's disaster flicks are a window into a different time, chock full of stars long forgotten, crammed full of cameo's (Leslie Neilsen as the Captain for example). Perhaps it's nostalgia, or perhaps this is actually a fairly decent effort, I can't tell, but having recently watched the remake (full of machismo) the original is a strangely awkward and brilliant.
NEXT UP: The Towering Inferno.
