Review of The Pool Boys (2009) by Crispy C — 12 Feb 2010
I have to say, these American Pie reject movies are a dime a dozen, and "The Pool Boys" is no different. Here's the skinny: a Harvard-bound geek begs his well to do cousin to get him a job at his aquatic sanitation business only to find out (you're not gonna believe this) that his upwardly mobile cousin ain't so upwardly mobile.
He's a pool boy, hence the title, in Beverly Hills of all places who lives like a king scamming off his wealthy benefactors. And he's got a new scheme cooked up. He gonna run a brothel out of a rich guys house who's out of town and make a killing before he comes back.
Now if you say you've heard this cliched premise before, I'm gonna say nuh-uh, 'cause this time Tom Arnold's in it and so is Pedro, so that's gotta make up the difference. Anyway, enough smarmy sarcasm.
This movie has a few genuine laughs, but it equals those out with cringe-worthy lines straight out of daytime TV and a silly ending that will make you regret having cared enough to watch this till the end.
I mean, does Harvard really have no time limit on accepting people back who flunk out? Can you really whore out enough haggard women to make full tuition to Harvard, much less tuition for two people? How much summer fun punk and pop music can one of these movies pack in? These and many more head scratching questions will be yours if "The Pool Boys" is right!
