My son is currently addicted to this movie (he loves trains) so I have now seen it about 30 times. I don't enjoy this movie much and here's why: The whole story is a sales pitch for blind faith and portrays knowledge and intelligence as annoying and ultimately wrong. The ghost character even mocks the main character by calling him a doubter and infers that he doesn't believe because he's afraid of being wrong.

I don't mind stories focused on believing in something, as metaphor for confidence in one's own abilities and worth, it's great. But this movie seems more like a religious zealot trying to bully an agnostic into believing in something unfounded.

Also, with the main character being on a magical train, going to the North Pole, and seeing the elves, Christmas town, the sleigh, reindeer, and Santa Clause, and only starting to believe once he grabs the stray sleigh bell, I fear the story focused too much on it's sales pitch and not enough on telling an enjoyable story.

But, if your kid loves trains and Christmas, it's not the worst film to sit through ;).
