These days it seems critics are likely to pan movie, unless it’s loaded with special effects. If you’re looking for a contemporary Mystery that hearkens back to Hitchcock noir, The Poison Rose is fantastic! Carson Philips (John Travolta) does a stellar performance as a Los Angeles private eye pulled back to his hometown to investigate a case.
He’s so real that you forget he’s John Travolta. The inimitable Morgan Freeman pulls off the crime boss with flare.
