Review of The Pledge (2001) by Tomas T — 09 Aug 2010
Retirement is a tough break for many but The Pledge takes it into a whole new level. Small town is hit by a vicious serial killer who is never caught and a retiring cop makes a pledge to catch the elusive killer no matter what. A promise quickly turns into an obsession and takes a toll on mental state of the J.Nicholson's character.
The movie's story is engaging without a doubt and it is starred by veteran cast, however the script could have used some heavy hand editing as after the intriquing beginning, the middle part of the movie is just agonizingly slow. Drama Thrillers like these naturally need time to mature the characters but The Pledge manages to halt the progress totally to a point where even a great ending would not save the movie.
