Review of The Pledge (2001) by Thomas P — 19 Dec 2015
One of the most interesting drama-thrillers I've seen, 'The Pledge' features a strong cast acting their socks off in a terrifyingly brilliant movie. Sean Penn makes an inspirational director's performance and Nicholson justifies the view of many that he is the finest actor around.
The plight of his character and his obsession with a missing girl makes for gripping viewing complete with twists and turns. Benicio del Toro is the scariest guy ever and proves his worth as an incredible performer despite only having one scene.
Some of the flashbacks will give you nightmares such as the church bloodbath, the final scenes will leave you frustrated but completely bowled over by the paranoia. Probably even better than 'The Silence of The Lambs'.
