Review of The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) by Alexander C — 29 Jan 2014
Melancholic, lyrical, occasionally gripping, often beautifully shot film, with killer perfs. It's basically three different stories (with deep underlying connections/themes). Unfortunately, each story becomes less compelling as they go along - partly because the central characters/actors in the third act can't compete with Gosling's stuff early on.
I guess it's just a bit too long. Very worthwhile overall though.
