Review of The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) by Tyler S — 16 Jul 2014
A riveting drama with 2 acts. The first act chroniclrs ryan goslings character and his path to becoming a bank robber. When he is shot and killed by a local cop played by Cooper the movie shifts to the struggles in his life and dealing w what he had done.
Knowing the man he killed left behind a 1 year old son he is mentally tormented and "off." The second act is 15 years later and it chronicles the boys of each parent. It digs deep into loss, father son bonds, remorse, and legacy.
Acting is flawless especially when Gosling is on the screen. You get thrown for a major curveball in the middle of the movie that is unexpected. There is an anticlimatic ending that almost seems to perfect.
At first I was upset w ending then I realized it fit pretty good.
