Review of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012) by Brian B — 24 Dec 2012
Aardman goes back to claymation? I never thought I see the day! After making 2 disappointing "computer-animated" movies, FLUSHED AWAY and ARTHUR CHRISTMAS, the creators of CHICKEN RUN and WALLACE & GROMIT finally made a stop-motion comedy without the involvement of DreamWorks Animation.
It is, so far, their best movie yet because of the swashbuckling action and language that they never did in their previous work. The animation is pretty crisp, the humor is all-out British, and the voice work (led by Hugh Grant) is entertaining.
Despite some kid humor and a bit of confusing moments, THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFIS (titled THE PIRATES! IN AN ADVENTURE WITH SCIENTISTS in the United Kingdom) is "Aardman's fun take on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN"!!!!
