Review of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012) by Jeremy S — 14 May 2013
The stop-motion artists at Aardman Animations take a step back from their usual British whimsy for this rough-and-tumble comic adventure on the high seas. The film, directed by Peter Lord and written by Gideon Defoe, is centered on a hard-luck pirate (voiced impeccably by Hugh Grant) whoâ(TM)s out to finally win the Pirate of the Year Award.
Queen Victoria, Charles Darwin, Jane Austen, and the Elephant Man are among the clever list of characters who are woven into the Pirate Captainâ(TM)s quest, and the action is beautifully staged, delightful, and exciting.
