Review of The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) by Todd H — 23 Jul 2009
Certainly the funniest entry in the series, it also has the broadest, most slapstick humor. The key here is the vigor that Sellers and Lom throw into their roles as the Inspector and Dreyfus (who is given a hugely expanded role as the villain).
Edwards patiently films his two leads, allowing them to flow from side to side of the frame in all of their their comedic genius. Hilarious scenes of note include the obligatory Cato-Clouseau catfight (where Edwards combines fast-motion, slow-motion, sound, and silence, all to hysterical effect) and the Inspector's attempts to climb a castle wall.
Edwards sets up his laughs here with masterful precision.
