Review of The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes (2005) by Andrew B — 07 May 2008
This movie looked beautiful, but never have I been so frustrated with a film of this nature. I can't quite put my finger on what I hated so much, but I just know that it was incredibly uninteresting and basically emotionless.
If the characters had been more identifiable and not so flat, maybe it would have been more interesting. I really really wanted to like this, but it just felt like it was trying too either too hard or not hard enough to be significant - even David Lynch's films (as much as they tend to frustrate me) generally have an identifiable emotional undercurrent 10 times stronger than this film. It's a shame, because I feel like this could easily have been an incredible treat if the Brothers Quay knew how to create a universe that has any relatable significance.
