Review of The Piano Teacher (2001) by Monica S — 02 Mar 2011
Holy shit, this movie is FUCKED. Before watching, the only thing I knew about this movie was that it is directed by Michael Haneke, and I really think that not knowing much is the best way to watch it, so I won't give away a lot.
It's about a piano teacher (obviously) and the relationship that unfolds with a pupil when he becomes smitten with her. The piano teacher is played by Isabelle Huppert, and she is brilliant. Again, not going to say much, but she manages to pull off the role of this woman with serious power issues exceptionally.
Sexually speaking, this is one of the strangest movies I have ever seen, and I have seen the majority of David Lynch's filmography. It is based on a Elfriede Jelinek novel, which I plan on reading soon.
The last movie that made me want to go out and read it's source material was No Country for Old Men, so hopefully this will be a good read as well.
