Review of The Piano Teacher (2001) by Morgan T — 16 Jun 2007
It's too horrific to give it a 5. But it's got the most interesting love scene in all cinema, the one in the bathroom. It has also two of France's best actresses (Isabelle Huppert and Annie Girardot), gosh and Huppert who is always flawless (she's the french Meryl Streep, only Dominique Blanc can top her) is here at her best.
The movie also got a third prize at Cannes, after the Grand Prize and Best Actress, Best actor. This got a lot of criticism, considering the very young age of Benoit Magimel, considering that Cannes this year had a lot other male actors, maybe as good.
But it's true Magimel's acting is great and the movie's overall atmosphere is very dark, uncomfortable, gross. And in a world where sex is everywhere, I guess this was necessary.
