Relatively dark film of uncanny beauty and sensuality, where the rugged and tempestuous natural surroundings of 1850s New Zealand mirror the passions of those in the love triangle... wonderful portrayal of life among the Maori natives, with a gorgeous and haunting musical score (one of the all time greatest!) adding volumes to the viewing pleasure.
