Review of The Piano (1993) by Wendy S — 12 Oct 2010
Re-watched about 7 years later and rating raise by ONE WHOLE STAR!!! This really is a beautiful and poetic film. The music is so moving and the scenery is often stunning. Some really touching moments and spots of humour too.
Holly Hunter is amazing and her face and movements say everything that words can't. It's a shame about that pesky voice-over narration, it feels unnecessary and somewhat strange given that Ada is a voiceless character.
Little Anna Paquin gives a wonderfully earnest performance worthy of her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
