Review of The Piano (1993) by Kim B — 27 Feb 2012
It was an interesting film, very sensual and romantic. This film wasn't like how I thought it would be, but my fiance caught on and predicted the ending right away. It was hard to tell what was going on with so little dialogue in the beginning.
At first, I thought Ada hated Baines and he was like a creepy rapist. Then I realized she was very attracted to him and it was consensual. Alistair became the creep I thought Baines was and I can't believe he chopped off her finger! It turns out Baines is the only person who ever really listens to Ada and gets her.
Her husband is a moron and doesn't know how to read between the lines. I didn't recognize Hunter in this movie, she's a good actress. I hated all the girl's hairstyles in this movie. My fiance couldn't get past all the gratuitous male nudity.
Paquin as a kid actress was amazing. Good cinematography and score obviously. The funny part was when Alistair made Paquin clean the trees b/c she shamed them haha.
