Review of The Pianist (2002) by Christian B — 11 Jul 2012
This film is this cinematic equivalent of Primo Levi's "If This Is A Man." As far as films relating to the holocaust go, this is the best crafted and most profound of them all. A far better film than the much, and rightly, lauded Schindler's List.
The ambiguous characters such as Captain Hosenfeld and the reserved normality of Szpilman adds nuance and depth where Schindler's list deals only in archetypes of good and evil. In short a masterpiece of both storytelling and cinematography.
A must see.
