Review of The Physician (2013) by Shibli Z — 25 Aug 2015
An utterly preposterous movie in which it takes an English pauper with no education to travel to Persia to teach the magnificent scientist Avicenna how to cure the Black Plague. Excuse my juvenile reaction to this, but: LOL!
The historical inaccuracies would be hilariously absurd even to a high schooler in 9th grade world history class. The Persians and Turks are depicted as swarthy dark skinned Gulf Arabs. For some reason they decided to portray the Muslims as tolerating only Jews and not Christians. Complete and utter nonsense. Even the Jewish heroine can't resist the great white power of the Englishman and gets banged by him. So basically the world can not revolve without the great white hero. The stereotypes of barely understandable accents, belly dancers, ridiculously tied turbans and many others abound.
What is more preposterous than any of this is the over 2 and a half hours running length! Terrible, terrible movie.
