Review of The Philadelphia Story (1940) by Daren F — 30 Aug 2008
The film that saved Hepburn's career and that gave Jimmy Stewart a make up Oscar that he should have won for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. It is a beautifully told comedy with some rather dark moments, joke wise and just plot line, that really dig deep into the society of time.
The story has Hepburn getting married for the second time and a gossip mag wants the dirty details and so they use Stewart to get the story and Grant being the first husband gets them in and hell cometh for the wedding.
Hepburn, Grant, and Stewart create a trio that is rarely matched on screen (if ever) and with the help of a fabulous supporting cast create a movie that is to be remembered for an age.
