Review of The Philadelphia Story (1940) by Stuart J. P — 21 Jun 2009
Screwball comedy's are rarely this intelligent. Golden age Hollywood again showing me another reason why movies were better in the good old days. All three main leads are deeply compelling, Especially Cary Grant who just exudes easy cool. I've been watching a lot of old Black & whites lately and Grant is by far the best of the old stars. He's just so damn likable... The bastard. lol.
Although that's not to take anything away from Jimmy Stewart. Who although not quite as good in this as he was in It's A Wonderful Life or Vertigo is still mesmerizing in his own way. Yet again another five star oldie... I recommend everyone starts picking up on the classics again. Simple, pure effective brilliance.
