Review of The Philadelphia Story (1940) by Matt C — 12 May 2010
Honestly, despite a great cast, I wasn't much looking forward to this one. It at least passed my low expectations. I figured it would be a kinda cheesy yet trailblazer of the romantic comedy genre.
I was right. I'm just not much for generic romantic comedies, they don't do much for me. But if you wanna see a Hollywood movie the way they were made back in the golden days, this would be one fairly good example.
This is at least pretty high up compared to your average modern romantic comedy. Grant and Stewart are just dandy in this one. And Hepburn, well this was the first movie of seen of her in her A-list actress days, and I was a bit annoyed with her voice, despite the fact that she's a great actress.
Anyways, it's worth one shot.
