Review of The Philadelphia Story (1940) by Scratch M — 02 Jan 2009
Halfway through the movie I thought it was amazing. This kind of witty banter and subtle romance has been mostly lost in today's cinema. However, the end of the movie blew my mind. Where before I reluctantly agreed with the movie's theme about developing patience with human frailty, by the end of the movie that proved to just be an excuse for women to accept their alcoholic, abusive husbands despite the threat to their lives.
The ending upset me horribly as a feminist.
