Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Ryan V — 27 Feb 2012
Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version of this famous story gets a lackluster screen translation thanks to director Joel Schumacher. Like a lot of movies based on stage plays, this one suffers from lax cinematography that makes the scenes appear stiff and lifeless.
It doesn't help that the actors, especially Emmy Rossum, are grating on this reviewer's nerves. There are numerous movies out there that adapt The Phantom of the Opera and almost all of them are better than this one.
