Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Elaine C — 07 Sep 2014
This movie is based on one of the most famous story or in another word, musical. Personally, I am addicted to the musical version and that is the main reason why it is definitely a must for me to watch this movie.
And in fact, this movie doesn't disappoint me and even surprised me by the serious movie production.
The storyline itself is so well known that many of us at least heard some part of them that based on the musical. One of the reasons why I appreciated this movie so much is that it successfully getting rid of the shadow of the musical. The director is able to make good use of the cameras close up angle to present the character's emotion fully in front of the screen. This specific feature is something that viewers can't enjoy when it comes to a live musical. On the other hand, the director adjusted several parts of the characters so as to allow the second main character-Raoul, stand up and push the competition between the phantom and Raoul on Christine even more. And in my opinion, I enjoyed this new arrangement since it can add more drama to the whole movie.
Lastly, as mentioned before, there is totally unfair if we neglect to look at the production, the costume and also the background setting. Since most of the scenes are filmed in the opera house, details in designing background and type of costume can be observed easily, especially a big credit to the scene of the mask party. Overall I am pleased to say that The phantom of the opera is a worth it movie choice.
