Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1962) by Scott S — 23 Aug 2009
Works better in the earlier parts until an extended flashback recaps events one of the main characters had already pieced together. A little too light on incident to work as horror, and the Phantom is maybe too sympathetic, not crazed enough to be scary, and his mute dwarf assistant is more of a klutz, who triggers the falling chandelier by accident, than the unpredictable psychopath he should be.
Doesn't quite work.
