A near comprehensive silent adaptation of the Leroux novel which is only held back by some pacing troubles and a cliché ending (complete with torch bearing mob and a stagecoach chase). The cinematography and design work are only bested by Chaney's show stealing performance and makeup with which he brings a sentative pathos to Erik.
