Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1925) by Andrew R — 10 Jun 2011
The first (besides the 1916 lost German film) and best cinematic telling of the story remains number one with Lon Chaneyâ??s self applied make-up techniques in this color tinted silent film. The detailed and wonderful theatre sets and sewers full of traps doors mark the first monster film from Universal which would go on to deliver the quintessential entries into the genre.
