Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1925) by Joel A — 26 Aug 2011
What an epic masterpiece this film was, Lon Chaney delivers the performance of his career...the madness and the eeriness of his acting stays with you.
This is such a lush beautifully made film that has gorgeous photography and a out of this world opera score.
This film has a solid story but it's the performances & the melodramatic elements that make it what it was. This was one of the early films to be in Technicolor (in parts) and at the masquerade ball scene keep an eye out for death... great costume.
This is a terrific version of the film & is far better than the 1930's version...far better made and more impacting.
