Review of The Phantom Carriage (1921) by Jessi T — 30 Sep 2010
A cracking piece when considering the time, and a very impressive story to boot. Not only was Victor Sjostrom (Flixster doesn't like the Swedish alphabet here) a gifted director but this is based on the Selma Lagerlof novel of the same name - one of Sweden's most famous writers.
In truth, the only thing that ruined it for me was the soundtrack but after muting the film and playing the 'Hamlet' soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, I found the film improved immensely!
Highly recommended!
