Review of The Petrified Forest (1973) by Scott S — 12 Jul 2009
The Petrified Forest (1936) -- [4.0] -- This is another of those stage plays trying to pretend it's a movie. Sometimes a single set and small group of chatty characters makes for an intimate, engaging movie, and sometimes it just ends up too talky and.
.. well, dull. The movie is probably most famous for catapulting Humphrey Bogart to stardom, even though it's not one of his better performances. Leslie Howard and Bette Davis are an unlikely couple.
Their relationship is contrived and resolves ridiculously. To hear the two wax romantic for minutes on end made me want to hurl.
