Introduction.

The main character Charlie is going to school as a freshmen to high school for the first day of school, he gives off the impression of a loner and stays alone, its known later in the movie he has bad memories of his aunt and her dying in a car reck while leaving him and getting him his birthday present, on Christmas Eve. He's had a bad past and its found out later during a party with the other "wallflowers" that his best friend had committed suicide the year before. He walks in on his sister Candace being hit by her boyfriend also known as ponytail Derek and everything just seems to go wrong at first.

Plot Summary.

A boy named Charlie, at first a loner is recutted into something more and is part of a group known as the wallflowers, he gains feeling for a girl Sam while he becomes fast friends with her step brother patrick who is homosexual he ends up dating another girl in the wallflower group and ends up making a mess of things during a game of truth or dare leading to him being alone for a while and slipping back into depression until he saves patrick from a group of people trying to hurt patrick, but Charlie doesn't remember any of it pretty much blacking out he gains his friend back and just as things fall in to place his friends leave to college and he is suffocated by his dark memories. The plots original and leaves the reader surprised at the characters choices and the dark past of the main character. Some major conflict is his friends leaving him ad his fall back into depression, his suicidal thoughts and Patricks hidden boyfriends dad not approving and his sisters abusive boyfriend.

Themes.

The theme shows a lot about daily life and many problems, one of the things the director had one of the characters say really ended up applying to the characters in the movie by saying That people find the love they think they deserve and its shown in many different ways of how this is applied such as Charlies sisters abusive boyfriend and the hidden relationship between Patrick and his boyfriend.

Technical Elements.

Some really interesting camera techniques was when Charlie had flash backs and it would be alms cloudy and a lot of times they had it at a tilt so that it gave a sense of uneasiness and they made it blurry when there was a party going on so that it showed that Charlie wasn't exactly seeing straight and another time they changed focus from one person to another when it was a serious conversation and the did an over the shoulder when we were seeing from Charlies point of view, they used a close up on Charlies aunts hand to show that it meant something they also had shaky camera movement when it showed Charlies aunt get in a car wreck. The did Charlies POV when he was seeing his hand after the fight he got in and it showed it for the first time after the screen went black showing his black out during the events.

Conclusion.

Overall this film was well thought out and had many interesting camera angles giving you more emotions over some of the things the characters said and did. The film twist your emotions in ways that may not have seemed possible before it was heartbreaking and joyful. It was a real eye opener in some ways and very life like and thats what really twists your heart, but even though it was a roller coaster of emotions it was such a wonderful film and I would recommend to almost anyone because it has a lot of emotions in it that I haven't felt in most movies and I would like to think that its the same for other people.
