Review of The Perfect Host (2010) by Justin S — 28 Jan 2012
I thought this movie was awesome. It doesn't seem like a lot of people agree with me, but it's probably one of the more enjoyable movies I've watched in recent memory. Pierce and Crawford both give killer performances, but I should say Pierce is especially excellent. I think it's pretty general knowledge that he's crazy but watching the crazy come out is really pleasurable, and I thought the little twists here and there were unexpected and fun. I wasn't entirely sold on the need to have a back story for Crawfords character, it seemed unnecessary and a little forced. For the way the movie ended up playing out it was important, but really the movie could have been rewritten to not include the whole thing with his girlfriend and it would have been better for it.
But that's just me scratching for something to complain about. In reality, if you enjoy a little dark humor this movie is a pretty good choice and is genuinely funny at times. Also, another perfect example of a movie that is worth watching for the dance scenes alone. Pretty much the whole middle of this movie and everything having to do with the actual dinner party is awesome. Great movie, go watch it.
