Review of The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996) by Kyle S — 30 Dec 2010
Though I found myself aggravated initially by the film's insistence upon extrapolating its narrative into a massively self-aggrandizing parable, by its end, I saw that the brush-stroke delivery was almost necessary.
To boot, it's one of the finest Harrelson performances ever, even when juxtaposed to a flat-out intolerable (if any more than autobiographical) slopfest from Courtney Love. On the whole, Flynt's theatrics and the heavy-handed message cause the film to swerve a bit, but it's all worth its weight for the most part.
