Review of The People vs. George Lucas (2010) by Andrew S — 07 May 2012
I am eternally grateful for this film because I am utterly SICK of Star Wars! Everywhere you look Star Wars is on everything, all because George Lucas just does not know when to quit. Did the original trilogy have to be tampered with? If the prequels had to happen, was it too much to ask that they make some kind of attempt to stay in continuity with the classics? Do we really need animated spin-offs, toys, Holiday specials, and Darth Mr.
Potato-Head Vaders? Well, this movie takes a look into the arguments made by members of both parties and like any film of its kind gives us the chance to make up our own minds. It is possible to sympathize with Lucas and understand where his decisions come from, but we are also given solid reasons as to why they can be so hurtful even if they are just movies.
I know a lot of people will say that films like these should never be touched, especially when they cover material as classic as Star Wars, but when the creator of a franchise allows his entire moral code die for the sake of making money and satisfying his selfish desires, that's enough of a justification for such a documentary to exist.
