Review of The Patriot (2000) by Matt M — 16 Aug 2013
The tale of a man's involvement in the Revolutionary war surrounded by the melodrama of a family situation is as gripping as it is overtly sloppy in the dramatic instances and predictable as far as the plot developments are concerned.
The film's greatest achievements take place on the battlefields. Anything taking place outside it is much less remarkable, including the emotional side of the story which feels formulaic and two dimensional.
