From a cinematographic standpoint it's a very visually striking, toned-down snuff film. It's quite well made.
That said, it's also nauseating, especially for people who are not members of the death-obsessed religion Mr. Gibson adheres to.
I prefer "Jesus Christ Superstar" - at least you can sing along to it.
