Review of The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Matt M — 11 Aug 2013
Mel Gibson was responsible for making one of the most controversial films ever when he made the Passion of the Christ, a film which chronicles the events aroung the crucifiction of Jesus Christ. However, the voices of its underlying anti-semitic messages and the controversy which particularly surrounded its gory graphic style, so gory in fact that it may be impossible for some viewers to watch, usually undermine the great achievement of this film in building an arguably unprecedented atmosphere of intensity in a powerful and fearless as well as 'passionate' portrayal of an event which, in itself, is controversial by its very nature.
The Passion of the Christ will split audiences in half, but it's hard not to admire Mel Gibson's audacity.
