Review of The Party (1968) by R.a. L — 18 Jun 2009
LETTERBOX.
/ I guess my sense of humor is not that easy to please. Some of the comedy set pieces are funny and orchestrated with the typical Blake Edwards finesse... But, more than anything (and despite the general satire), this leaves the unpleasant aftertaste of feeling that the laughs are not because of the protagonist's situation, but they are AT him.
.. who, by the way, is an Indian (interpreted by an Englishman) in a context of chic whites.
