Review of The Party (1968) by John H — 01 Nov 2017
Let me start by saying that this is one of our favourite movies which we never tire of watching.
The plot is pretty straight forward. An bumbling but kind and generous Indian actor, played by Sellers, is invited to a big movie producer's party by mistake. Most of the movie plays out over the evening of the party where he interacts with the various party goers.
I know others would disagree but I think this is perhaps Sellers' best performance. Part of the magic is the innocence of Sellers' character and part the screen play and direction of Blake Edwards with whom he also did the Pink Panther movies.
The supporting cast is also flawless with nary a misstep between them.
There are many laugh out loud moments and also gentle experience moments to be had. It is a really nice combination of drama comedy and a innocent romance.
This is the best type of comedy with some wonderful performances, great screen play and direction.
