Review of The Paradine Case (1947) by Mark S — 04 Oct 2008
An adequate courtroom drama from Hitchcock, starring Gregory Peck as a successful barrister who falls for the beautiful young woman he is defending in a murder trial, and subsequently lets his feelings influence his actions.
The film's got a reasonably good story to it and is performed by a strong cast, plus there are a few interesting little touches added into the equation, such as the vindictive judge who seems to take pleasure in sending people to the gallows while his wife despairs at his callousness.
This was the last film Hitch made with David O. Selznick and it was a commercial and critical failure, but I think it's slightly underrated and is a perfectly decent effort.
