Review of The Paperboy (2012) by Andy P — 20 Jan 2014
Nicole Kidman pees on Zac Efron...
In some awry, twisted way, Lee Daniel's hyper-stylized southern comical drama is equally tasteless and foul as it gleefully wallows in its filthy sexually-charged escapades of going-for-broke acting by an all-star cast and a reluctant meandering tone that becomes quite interesting. It's by no means "high art," but what's the point? By the time we witness a poor McConaughey gagged and tied in brutal masochistic bondage due to his homosexuality and adoration for black men -- two "big" no-no's in 1960's South Florida, (which only reaffirms the film's racially charged vivacity), it's hard to really expect anything of higher value and willingly accept the film on its terms. As bizarre and wacko the film becomes throughout, it's never dull, rather musing in its sweaty muck.
