Review of The Panic in Needle Park (1971) by Jude L — 17 Sep 2008
Al Pacino is totally charismatic as Bobby the dealer - it's easy to see how Helen falls for him (and ends up an addict like him). I am not a massive Pacino fan - I find him a little too...err..flamboyant - but I just love his naturalist performance in this.
Kitty Winn completely deserved her award for her performance (also an incredibly naturalistic one). I found the lingering shots on the needles a bit tough to watch. No music, just traffic noise and the actors add to the atmospherics - yes I just loved this film.
In my opinion - it's better than any other film I have seen in this genre so far.
