Claudette Colbert is A++. This is the first time I've thought of her as genuinely sexy, even though I've seen her in plenty of other things. She has a very warm presence in TPBS, which helps sustain the film.

Otherwise, it could have been very bitter and cynical. Instead, it is hilarious. (Although, really, someone needs to talk about Sturges' race problems. I know they're not unique to him but they really cause problems when you try to watch the movies now.
