Review of The Pajama Game (1957) by David B — 29 Dec 2009
Genuinely entertaining film adaptation of the successful Broadway musical, Doris Day leads a pajama factory in strike action while falling in love with the superintendent, John Raitt reprising his stage role.
The plot is complete froth but the film is tightly constructed and fast-paced, with Bob Fosse's choreography lifting what would be an otherwise very ordinary offering.
Day is lovely and Raitt's polished Sid Sorokin make for a fine pairing but solid dance numbers outshine the music leaving us, ultimately, holding the bag.
