Review of The Pagemaster (1994) by Steven P — 02 Dec 2010
What can I say? I liked this film when I was little, but it was quickly jettisoned and replaced with Mario, Sonic, Pokemon, Zelda, and other technology.
I admit that it had good animation at its time, and it was actually a noble attempt to use a film to get people to read more. That said, that task has been done better in recent years by Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and even Twilight. Tweaked versions of classic stories like Tangled (Rapunzel with music and attitude) and Gulliver's Travels (set in the 21st century instead of the 17th) may also have a good chance of getting those kids to the library to see what their parents have been fussing about.
My score and brief review is nothing personal, it was just time to move on. The Nostalgia Critic did give me the good humor to review this film though, and it may actually get me to check out that copy of The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest I've been meaning to.
