Review of The Page Turner (2006) by Alexi T — 31 Jul 2008
This tedious, monotonus, dull film should be highly recommened to insomniacs everywhere. Not only does nothing of any interest or importance occur anywhere in the film, but it does so completely without any sembelence of style.
Before you start to get up in arms, I am well aware of the fact that many of the greatest European films feature little in the way of action or storyline, however to compare this film to classics such as 'The Bicycle Thieves' or' Wild Strawberries' would not only only result in Bergmann turning in his grave, but rising from it and dispensing a well deserved arse kicking to the film-makers.
This is the kind of film that I could have swore Godard and Rohmer saved past generations from, yet here it rises like some kind of... you know what fuck this, I can't be bothered to come up with a poetic simile, suffice to say this film is turgid rubbish.
Save yourself the time you would have spent watching this and get something from Polanskis early peroid. (Incase you were wondering about the rating, it's simple. I would open my flies and crawl through broken glass for one kiss from Deborah Francois).
