Review of The Page Turner (2006) by Seppo K — 07 Oct 2007
So this little creep-fest has been showing on our screens for a while now, mainly I'd suggest because of the recognisable presence of Deborah Francois. So splendidly good in L'Enfant last year she turns 180 degrees left here with a downright creepy turn as a quietly maniupulative and vengeful page turner.
It's a tense little film that sets the mood very early on with the stony-faced presence of Julie Richalet as the young Melanie and then the very good Francois later on. The film works though because of the balance offered by Catherine Frot, who is quite a sexy presence on screen without being overtly so.
She's very good as the pianist of this piece. It's really nicely shot if a little thin overall but, still a pleasant diversion firmly in the realm of early Agatha Christie or Ruth Rendell where the threat of something occurring as opposed to the actual act of violence keeps one turning the pages or in this case close to the edge of the seat.
