Review of The Oxford Murders (2008) by Phil N — 22 Jan 2009
I'm a huge fan of Iglesia's early work so it's great to see him directing a more high profile film for a change. Sadly it's a poor film... not really Alex's fault, he acquits himself competently enough, it's the story that sucks - a weak thriller based around logic and maths.
WAZ did something similar much much better. If this had been an Argento flick with some gory set pieces then perhaps it would have gotten away with it, but it's not. John Hurt does his best with the material but Elijah Wood is miscast and there's some shockingly bad performances including Burn Gorman from Torchwood.
Watch Inspector Morse instead.
